Album of The Week – Protoje – Third Time’s The Charm

In this week’s edition, we delve into Protoje’s 6th career album titled Third Times the Charm. With a confusing title (because it’s his 6th album), the album concludes an album trilogy that began with, ‘A Matter of Time’ (2018), followed by In Search of Lost Time.

Third Time’s The Charm concludes this trilogy of albums that directly focus on my study of time and how important it is to make sure what you’re doing is fulfilling you in every way. Sonically it’s a bit more reggae than my last, even though reggae is always the root, I had some fun implementing all the sounds I’ve grown to love.” Emphasized Protoje.

Released on the 23rd of September 2022 by Protoje’s In.Digg.Nation Collective and Six Course Music/RC Records, the album contains 10 tracks. The most notable tracks with single releases include Incient Stepping and HILLS. A lot like beauty, good music is in the eye of the beholder. Consequently, reggae fans should appreciate the album which boasts notable collaborations with Lila Ike, Jorja Smith, Jesse Royal, Samory I and Iotosh. Protoje gets in his feelings reinforced by a strong female contingent like Lila Ike and Jorja Smith. Protoje sticks to a unique Roots Reggae style with his usual soul and Hip Hop touch.
