Busy Signal Continues to Shine

Having spoken about the lack of drama in reggae as compared to dancehall artists, special mention needs to go out to Busy Signal in the dancehall space. Born in St Ann, Jamaica, Busy Signal has steadily risen to the top in both the reggae and dancehall spaces. Busy Signal, whose government name is Reanno Devon Gordon, commands a lot of respect in Jamaican music. Furthermore, unlike most dancehall artists in Jamaica, Busy seems to just get on with it, without the nonsense and drama that follows most dancehall artists.

To be fair, Busy is no stranger to law enforcement and has had his runnings with the law. The artist pleaded guilty to absconding bail in the US in 2002 and was sentenced to 6 months in jail. Having been on the run since 2002 for drug-related charges, Busy was extradited back to the US when he was picked up at Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston Jamaica in 2012 by US Marshals.

Following his prison stint in Minnesota, Busy has been playing on the right side of the law and now just seems to get on with making music. With a string of hits, this year(2023) Busy Signal is a recognized hitmaker evidenced by cuts like Big Chune, Hustle Mi Deh Hustle, and High Up. Being a man of the people, he has also had notable collaborations as well with the likes of Buju Banton and Anthony B. His latest hit Cyah Tame, features Konshens and is one to look out for.
