Australia Crowned World Test Champions

Australia are officially the World Test Champions of test match cricket. The Aussies wrapped up India on day 5 of the World Test Championship final at the Oval with a 209-run win. In a test match where they lost the toss and were put into bat. Australia always looked in control of the tie excelling with both bat and ball.

Man of The Match Travis Head had a masterclass batting performance. The in-form batsmen scored a solid 163 off 174 backed up by Steve Smith’s 121(268). Scott Boland was the pick of the Australian quicks being the most economical and getting key wickets in the 2nd innings. His performance leaves the selection panel with a real conundrum as to who should start the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston. Having come into the squad as a replacement for Josh Hazelwood, Boland put his hand up for selection. Whether he gets the nod ahead of a fit Josh is left to the selection panel.

“It’s been an amazing two years,” Cummins told reporters in the post-match press conference.

“We’ve had this final in the diary for a while, it’s something that we’ve been building up for … it’s something we’re going to savour.”

“I know we’ve got a big series (next), but we can worry about that in a couple of days. You only get a few of these moments in your career when you can sit back and acknowledge your achievements, and this is one of those times.”

India failed to get going and suffered another Test Championship defeat. Indian coach Rahul Dravid had this to say after the defeat.

“I am never going to be happy with the prep as a coach, but that’s a reality I’m faced with.”

“Schedules are so cramped and tight. When you’ve been playing international cricket, if you’re here three weeks before the tour and play two (warm-up) games, you’re going to be better prepared.”

“We don’t have that; got to do what we can, but no excuses, no complaints.

“I want to congratulate Australia. They played better than us for five days. We don’t need to make excuses, we need to look at ourselves, see what we can get better at, what we can improve on, and that’s a constant effort.”

It’s onto the next for the Aussies in England for Ashes 2023. And back to the drawing board for the Indians.
