CWC: India Power Past New Zealand In World Cup Semi

India registered a place in this year’s Cricket World Cup final with a powerful 70-run win over New Zealand in Mumbai. After setting a mammoth 398-run chase, thanks to two impressive centuries. India rose to the occasion in the first semi-final and awaits either South Africa or Australia.

Virat Kohli broke his idol’s(Sachin Tendulkar) record and registered his 50th One Day International century. Scoring an impressive 117 in 133 balls. He was slightly overshadowed by Shreyas Iyer’s 105 in 70 balls who helped India set the 397 total. India’s platform was set by their opening partnership as their captain Rohit Sharma stormed to 47 runs in 29 balls and Shubman Gill scored 80 runs despite leaving the pitch on 72 runs with an injury only to come back after the 4th wicket.

New Zealand put up a brave fight managing to score 320 runs. But, the total proved too much for the New Zealanders who walked away with their heads held high. Daryl Mitchel scored an impressive 134 in 117 balls. And just missed out on the man of the match which went to India’s Mohammed Shami with a standout 7 wicket haul for 57 runs with ball in hand.

India will go into the final unbeaten in the whole tournament and will be heavy favorites at home. This is surely their year as their batting and bowling are at an all-time high. However, cup finals throw form out of the equation and India will need another impressive performance to keep the trophy at home.
