Harry Maguire and Andre Onana Redemption As United Beat FC Copenhagen

Man United won with another unconvincing performance in last night’s Champions League encounter at home to FC Copenhagen. Harry Maguire scored the winner in the 72nd minute and Andre Onana saved a last-minute penalty to keep United’s hopes of staying in the tournament alive.

In a relatively even encounter with United edging possession with 51% and having one more chance on goal with 15 goal attempts, Man United moved into 3rd place in the group, a point behind 2nd placed Galatasaray.

Harry Maguire proved why he decided to stay at the club after dropping down the pecking order. Maguire has demonstrated real character in acknowledging criticism with 3 consecutive starts, he has found his form once again and the goal will go a long way in securing his spot for Sunday’s fixture against Manchester City.

Andre Onana came to United’s rescue, saving a penalty after FC Copenhagen were awarded a soft penalty from Scott Mctominay’s last-gasp challenge. Onana redeemed himself by saving Larson’s penalty after his mistakes in the previous Champions League games steered United into the precarious situation they find themselves. United are not out of the woods yet as they need to win their next two (UCL) fixtures against FC Copenhagen again, as well as Galatasaray.

Man United still look like a jaded side playing through injuries however, they have been able to deliver. Good teams are able to get wins despite not playing well. Does Man United fall in this category? Or are they just an average side scraping through games?
